In the 19th century, the Lamothe estate belonged to Monsieur d'Elbauve, who also owned the beautiful and ancient Vertheuil Abbey. When Gabriel Fabre, returning from Morocco, bought the estate in 1964, wine production had ceased. The 33 hectares of vines that now make up the Château Lamothe vineyard were planted from April 1967 onwards on a clay-limestone slope and a gravelly mound.
